Donation Part 2

Are you ready to see the rest of what Jean brought us?  Okay lets take a look at them....

Here is a top made from my favorite line....Marbled Moda's, they are striking in the 9 patches.  We have ABC off square fabric.... and look Jean sent premade binding and backing for the quilt also.
This top is gorgeous I love each block and how the colors migrate from lighter to darker in the  same color family.  I also love the backing that Jean sent, that bright striped material.
This top reminds me of my grandmother, florals were her favorite.... and when I look at this top I think it is a classic... much like my grandma.  (thanks Jean for the pleasant memory)
Here is another 9 patch... I love how it is the same quilt as the first, but because the borders are different the quilt has a different feel.  I also love the backing and binding material she sent.  The balloons match the colors in the 9 patches.

Once again Jean V thank you for your generous donations!  I have no doubt they will all be well loved.

I have tucked these quilt tops away in my closet, with the rest of the tops that are waiting to be quilted.

I am in the process of reorganizing donated material, and that closet.....so maybe next week I will take inventory of it and find out how many tops I actually have.  Maybe I will even try to marry backing material with quilt tops...... that may be to logical, at least for me.

Hope the sun shines for you at least a little this weekend.  Stop by on Tuesday for a peek at a couple of completed projects.

Donations!

Oh where to start? I guess I am going to start with a big THANK YOU to Jean V.

I received a call from Jean last week asking if by chance I would be home on Friday.  She wanted to stop by and drop off a quilt for Iowa Comfort.  Now Jean has donated a top before, and it was so bright and cheerful...that I was really looking forward to seeing what she made this time.
Here is a picture of the first quilt.

I was not prepared for Jeans generosity, but I truly am grateful, and I know that they will be loved by the child that receives them.

Take a look.
She made a smaller version of the quilt above.
Isn't this quilt adorable, bright nine patches with ABC fabric in the background.
I love the colors and textures of this little quilt.
Another 9 patch, but this time with a teddy bear background.
This quilt is so soft and fluffy.  Can you see the alphabet blocks?
Here is a little rail fence, that is adorable.
Wonderful fabrics again, but this time in an around the world setting.

Count them that is  SEVEN quilts!

Love it even more these are ready for donation....except that pesky label that I insist on putting on all of our quilts.  I plan on spending this week getting them labeled and the paperwork done on them so they can make the next delivery cycle.

This isn't even the complete donation, I'll show you the rest of it on my post on Saturday.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!  Thank you again Jean V.!

another busy day

Just a quick note before I go and hang out with Mister Owen today.  Hard to believe it but he is turning one today!  His parents are having a party for him in the park.... and this grandma is on decoration detail this morning.

It is also hard to believe that it is the first of June already, this year is flying by!   Lets talk about May though.  Yesterday I made a delivery to the center. There were 7 quilts and 45 pillowcases delivered.  You can check out the quilts on the 2013 photo gallery tab.  They were quilts 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 84 and 88.  I know you noticed a gap there... I have a few quilts that still need binding or labels sewn on...and they just didn't get done before my delivery.

The center was very appreciative of the donation.....and had a special request.  They recently had a quilt rack donated to them.  They are looking for a quilt to be made that they can hang from the wall in their office.  They want the quilt to reflect their mission statement......anyone up for the challenge?

I hope to get two labels sewn on quilts this weekend, and I have three quilts to bind this coming week.

As always I will quilt one or two of the quilts on the pile also this week.

Yesterday I received a major donation of quilts.  I will be showing them on my next two posts so make sure to stop back and see them.

Hope everyone enjoys the sunshine the weatherman are promising this weekend!

Goodies from Circle of Friends

First let me apologize for missing Saturdays post.  I could blame it on getting old, I could blame it on being busy...and the truth would probably be somewhere in the middle.  I had writing my blog post on my calendar for last Friday, what I forgot to put on the calendar was that Little Owen was coming to visit that day.

Now I knew that Owen was coming for an overnight visit on Friday... but because I didn't have both on my calendar the post didn't get created.  Had they both been on my calendar I would have realized how ludicrous it was to think I would be sitting at a computer creating a post with a soon to be 1 year old and a fourteen week old puppy in the house!

Lets get to Iowa Comfort business....shall we?

Last Monday I went to my quilt meeting in Adel, and I came home with goodies.

Nancy H. brought me this bag of doggy scraps.
Sue D. had dropped off a bag of doggy scraps at Adel Quilting and Dry Goods.
I leave one bed at open sew, so all of the fabric can go into the doggy bed instead of the trash.  I picked it up also and closed it up.  It is the pillow in the lower part of the picture above.  Sue, Nancy and Mary's scraps filled the other two beds.  I have enough scraps cut down now to make another 2 beds, so I will try to get them done this week.
In Sue's bag, there was this really nice, soft fabric.  I thought about putting it in the doggy beds....but thought that it could be used as something soft for smaller dogs to lay on.  So the shelter is getting these as is.  Hopefully they won't mind that the fabric sheds a little.
Jan brought me 3 more pillowcases for the center.
Sue had a pillowcase in one of her sacks also.

With these 4 pillowcases we are at 56 for the year.  Well on the way to reaching our goal of 75.

This week I hope to trim and bind 3 comfort quilts and quilt another of the log cabin tops. We'll see how well my plan is executed this week........

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend despite the weather!

Never ending bag of flannel.

I think that perhaps flannel is related to bunny rabbits somehow.

I am not quiet sure how...but it must be so.  Otherwise that sack of flannel that I gave the ladies from Adel Christian Church, would not be still yielding quilts.

Margret brought me the latest installment a couple of weeks ago, and I just realized that I hadn't gotten them up yet....so here they are.

I love pink and black together.  I think it is adorable that we have kitten themed fabric, and a doggy paw border.

These two are pretty much the same, except for the inner border.  Both very cute!

Yes, they did their magic and was able to put together a quilt top for a little boy.  No easy feat, as that sack of flannel was mostly pink, yellow and a little bit of blue.
Here is the last of the installment.  I love the pop of the yellow in this quilt!

All of the quilts are adorable! They will provide a smile to a small child and their mother.

Thanks again to all of the ladies who are generously donating their talents and time to this project....YOU LADIES ARE AWESOME!

I am such a slacker!

This week has come and gone....and I have accomplished nothing. Puppy training is kicking my backside.  My day is starting at 5am, when Hawkeye decides it is time to go out and be feed.  I rarely feel awake enough to even try to piece or quilt.

I have been working on a quilt at night.  It is the only quilt that I will keep for myself.  I am down to all the handwork on it. I made myself a promise that this quilt would make it into the little sister quilt show in Adel, in a couple of weeks.  Actually it was suppose to be completed last year for the quilt show.

I think I will make it, but just barely.

Hopefully I will have progress to report on Tuesday.

Deb

I have no idea why this didn't post on Saturday, when it was suppose to. Perhaps it wasn't worthy.....

Where does the time go?

I find it hard to believe that it can be Tuesday already.  Where did the time go?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers day weekend.  I was very busy, but very little of it had to do with quilting or Iowa Comfort.

I did get my son's quilt repaired and requilted with a new backing.  It is currently on the longarm waiting for me to remove it and get it bound.

At night I have been working on stitching down the pedals on my 3D folded flower quilt.  As of last night I only have 20 pedals left to stitch down...then I move on to adding the crystal bead to each flower. 125 of them to be exact, and then I can FINALLY be done with this quilt.  I am coming down to the wire on it, the quilt show is June 8th.

At this point I am not even sure I like the quilt anymore!  It has just taken up so much of my time and been so labor intensive that I really want to just put it in a closet for a while and forget about it.  Do you ever feel that way about a quilt?

Well as far as Iowa Comfort....this week I am going to be working on getting a delivery ready for the center.  I also have the 3 quilts that I quilted last week to get bound, a few quilts that need labels....and just pretty much catch up work before I move on to other projects.

I do plan on quilting at least 1 twin size quilt for the center this week also.

Today it is suppose to be in the 90's here in Iowa...so if you live here...enjoy!

38!

I received an email from Jacque owner of Adel Quilting and Dry Goods this week.  She informed me that she had a huge bag of pillowcases that had been dropped off for donation.

Last year Adel Quilting and Dry Goods sponsored the pillowcase drive for the center.  The ones donated this week had been collected last year, but not turned in. No worries, the pillowcases are going to the same place and we can use them now to meet this years goal of 75.

Take a look:
Here they are all stacked in groups of 5.  That would be a total of 38.
There are soft and sweet pillowcases like this one.
And bright and cheerful ones like this.
And even a few that are manly....those are moose and deer on the cuff of this one.

It is my understanding that Jenny O spear headed this drive at work.
Some of these pillowcases came from as far away as California.

Jenny told Jacque that they call their group the Stitchin Clinicians because they are all RN's.  That makes sense to me, nurses giving comfort in many forms.

With this donation we stand at 52 pillowcases donated.  The goal for the year is 75...so we are over 2/3 of the way there!  Of course if we surpass our goal again this year that will be great!

Special thanks to Jenny and the Stitchin Clinicians, your generosity will help provide comfort to someone in the very near future!

Thank you Adel Quilting and Dry Goods for your continued support also!

Goal Achieved

I did manage to complete last weeks goal.  Never mind that I accomplished it late Sunday evening.....

I decided it was time to bring back and old habit, my scheduling book.  I do so much better with my time when I schedule my quilting.  There is just something about looking at the book, and knowing what I need to work on that day.  Somewhere between my machine being down for maintenance and my trips, we had parted ways.

This week I am working on customer quilts and my sons quilt that needs to be repaired.

I will also work on getting a delivery ready for the center.

I guess I should get my grocery list done, so I can be home in time to work on today's customer quilt.

Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine!

This and that

It is hard to believe it is May already!  And the Des Moines farmers market starts today.

Mom and I go every Saturday, she goes for the fresh produce.  I go to the market for the breakfast burrito's and homemade cinnamon rolls.  Some how I think her purchases are better for her than mine are for me.

I want to remind everyone that the Crisis Center is having their garage sale today at the Adel fairgrounds.  All of the proceeds will go to help those in need , so if you can go and check it out that would be great!

It has been a hectic week around here.  Especially the last couple of days.  We have a new member at our house.  His name is Hawkeye Logan.  ( my granddaughter Lexi  helped us pick him out last Saturday and she thought his name should be Logan....so we made it his middle name.  :-) )

He is keeping me pretty busy.  With potty training and crate training at night... but there is still time for quilting!

Above you will see the log cabin that I finished yesterday.  Since it was nasty outside I took the pictures while it was still on the machine.  I plan to get the other two quilts from Tuesdays post quilted yet today and tomorrow.

Hawkeye has decided that he doesn't like the sound of Fonzie and Lenni, so he waits patiently for me at the door.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
